Ned Horner Studio

Hello, My name is Ned Horner, and I offer private instruction to people of all ages and skill levels on violin, viola, bluegrass fiddle and mandolin.  I strive to create a relaxed and fun, yet disciplined learning environment.


    


About Ned Horner

Ned Horner is currently the assistant principal violist for the Springfield (MO) Symphony.  He also plays in the viola section of the Fort Smith (AR) Symphony, and is the concertmaster of the Ozark Festival Orchestra.  Ned taught beginning strings (Violin, Viola, Cello, and Bass) to 5th graders in the Springfield Public School District for two years.  He also assisted in forming the Missouri Symphony Conservatory in Columbia, Missouri.  While there he was the assistant conductor of the Junior String Orchestra (Grades 5 - 8) and the Youth Orchestra (Grades 9 - 12).  Ned has a Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance from Missouri State University and a Masters of Music in violin and viola performance from DePaul University in Chicago.  While living in Chicago Ned played violin with the Chicago Civic Orchestra (the Chicago Symphony's training orchestra) and got the opportunity to play under many of the worlds most illustrious conductors.  Ned also has a Master of Music degree in orchestral conducting from the University of Missouri in Columbia.  In 2014 Ned taught himself to play rhythm guitar so that he could play bluegrass music with his dad.  He currently plays mandolin and fiddle, and sings tenor with a band called the Grass Pickers.
